なぜ未来を欲するのか

どう逃げようとしても未来は必ず来るのに、なぜ人類はいつも未来を求めるのか？
世界中には環境問題や貧困問題など課題が山積するが、そもそもなぜ課題は存在するのか。それは、現在の状況がそのまま続くことを望まず、それとは違う未来を我々が主体的に思い描くから初めて現状が課題になる。現在の課題がすべて解決したとしても新たな課題は尽きず一見ディストピアでしかない世界の中で、人類にとっての唯一の希望は「我々が思考し、学習し、常に前進できる」という知性。未来に対して思考を諦めさえしなければ無限にアイデアを出し、良い未来にすることが可能である。それゆえ人類は常に現状維持とは「ちがう方の未来」を渇望する。未来を欲する限り私たちに可能性が尽きることはない。
Why do people yearn so much for a future, given that it will come anyway, even if we try to avoid it.
There are many problems, such as in the environment, or in human suffering. Why do we even have such troubles? It is because our present has become so problematic that we do not want it to continue, meaning that we prefer to envisage something different lying ahead. Yet if all current dilemmas were solved, new ones would appear. Our only hope in this dystopic world lies in our intellects, with which we keep on thinking, learning and advancing. Unless there comes a time when humanity decides to just give up, we will go on endlessly creating new ideas for a better future. That is why we strive for a future which is different from the present. The possibilities are endless, just so long as we strive for a future.
